“Miracle happened and I…” The director was on the verge of death after the release of ‘Kaante’, expressed his pain after 24 years
Director Sanjay Gupta Recalls Near Death Experience: Director Sanjay Gupta, famous for his excellent gangster films in Bollywood, has recalled a very painful and terrible accident of his life on social media. This incident happened just after the release of his superhit film ‘Kaante’.
Sanjay Gupta told that when he was dreaming of going on a long holiday after the success of the film, then nature had something else in mind and instead of celebrating the holiday, he was fighting the battle of life and death in the ICU ward of the hospital. Director Sanjay Gupta has revealed a painful story that happened to him 24 years after the release of the film Kaante.
‘Kaante’ was released in the year 2002
Sanjay Gupta’s cult classic film ‘Kaante’ was released in theaters on 20 December 2002. An army of big stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Mahesh Manjrekar, Kumar Gaurav, Lucky Ali and Malaika Arora were seen in this film. The filmmaker had put his entire life into making this film. Today, after so many years, when he remembers that period, he considers his present life as a bonus life given by God.
“A life had ended.”
Quoting a wise thought of famous philosopher Marcus Aurelius, Sanjay Gupta wrote on social media, “Consider yourself dead and then live the life that is left properly.” Sharing his ordeal with this idea, he further wrote, “I had a terrible accident right after the release of ‘Kaante’. The doctors at Lilavati Hospital had clearly said that my first 72 hours were very critical. But a miracle happened and I survived. As if one of my lives had ended there, whatever life I have got after that is a bonus. Now I live my life openly like this bonus.”
Spent 5 weeks in ICU
Recently, in an interview given to ‘Wild Films India’, Sanjay Gupta mentioned that dreadful period. He said, “This accident happened during the holiday period. I had worked very hard day and night on ‘Kaante’ and there were many difficulties at the time of its release. Being such a big project, I had to handle a lot of things alone. I had thought that once the film was released, I would go on a long holiday with peace. The same thing happened, the film was released and I had such an accident that I went straight to the hospital for a long holiday, where I spent about 5 days. I was admitted to the ICU for weeks.”

Think of yourself as dead. Now take what’s left and live it properly – Marcus Aurelius.
On the release of KAANTE I met with an accident.
Doctors at Lilavati said the first 72 hours were critical. I made it.
One lifetime was almost totaled. And everything after is a bonus.

Let us tell you that Sanjay Gupta’s film ‘Kaante’ was inspired by the famous Hollywood film ‘Reservoir Dogs’. There were already many problems in making this film. A year before the film’s release, during the shooting in Los Angeles, the 9/11 terrorist attacks took place in America, due to which the shooting location of many scenes had to be changed. The film was finally released and was a hit, but just a week after its release, on 27 December 2002, a big storm came in Sanjay Gupta’s life.
When he was returning from Khandala to Mumbai, his car met with a horrific road accident. At that time Sanjay Gupta was only 35 years old. While the entire industry was celebrating the success of the film, Sanjay Gupta was battling death in the hospital bed for almost 3 months.
