The White House had claimed that the two leaders had confirmed the common goal of denuclearization of North Korea. Kim Yo Jong said that some American officials are still out of touch with reality and have not been able to get out of old dreams.

Program intensified after 2019 failure

North Korea has rapidly expanded its nuclear and missile programs after talks between Kim Jong Un and then US President Donald Trump failed in 2019.
