KitchenAid Launched a Mixer That’s Dividing Fans—Including Us

I’m a kitchen gear aficionado, but even I have a short list of truly essential, coveted items in my collection. Among that list will always be my KitchenAid stand mixer. As a former pastry cook, I find this tool indispensable. It’s consistent, easy to use, and allows me to multitask. I’m in the market for a new mixer since I’ve been using my family’s 20-year-old model, which my mom deserves to have back. Because of that, I’m always looking for models that pique my interest, and the brand’s latest launch has surely…grabbed my attention.

The brand came out with an all-new design-forward mixer aptly named Evergreen. I absolutely love the mixer itself since it’s splashed with a mid-toned mossy green that was practically made for me. And the brass and leaf accents just take it one step further toward perfection. But, the walnut bowl is where they lost me. After bringing it up with the team, I quickly realized we were split. Some of us loved everything about the mixer, while others, like myself, weren’t so sure.

KitchenAid Design Series Evergreen Stand Mixer

Williams Sonoma

I love the design of this KitchenAid mixer. It has a high-powered 10-speed range for control for whatever recipe you need. There’s also a locking tab on the other side, which ensures the mixer stays in place. The head tilts up, just like the mixer I own—this feature is so essential, because it makes it easy to scrape the bowl, add ingredients, or remove the bowl after mixing. It comes with three essential attachments: a whisk, a dough hook and a paddle. Use them to make whipped cream, cake batter or bread doughs with ease. Along with the forest-inspired evergreen color, the mixer has a unique brass hub cover that’s stamped with a leaf design that is so chic. You can buy 10 different accessories to attach to the hub, like spiralizers or pasta makers.

The main change is the bowl, which is made of walnut wood. It’s dark overall and dotted with different hues of wood, and has a food-safe finish. The wood pattern will be different on each bowl because it’s a natural material, adding a unique touch to your mixer. It attaches to the mixer’s base just like standard bowls from the brand. The wooden bowl is not dishwasher-safe and should be hand-washed and towel-dried; complete the cleaning process by applying food-safe oil.

Understandably, people are concerned about the wood bowl (myself included). Folks are already commenting on the brand’s retail pagewondering if the bowl will wear down over time or if ingredients will absorb into the wood (like eggs from bread dough). A sales associate responded to the comments, explaining that the bowl  requires maintenance after each use to ensure its longevity and that it can be easily wiped clean after each use.

There is some good news for us skeptics who love the mixer itself, though, because it is compatible with the brand’s 4.5- and 5-quart stainless steel bowls. However, you will have to pay more upfront for both the mixer and the bowls. Speaking of the price, though—the $700 cost is another deterrent. “It’s gorgeous, but I’d never spend that much on a stand mixer,” says Associate Editorial Director Carolyn Malcoun. “Would I have registered for it when I was getting married? Maybe. I have a lower-priced KitchenAid mixer, and it’s amazing.” On the flip side, there’s so much positive feedback from folks wanting to buy just the bowl for their stand mixers. Take one quick scan through this Reddit threadand you’ll find heaps of positive comments praising its design. It’s even transcended other social media platforms, like TikTok.

No matter where you stand, there’s no denying these two things: The brand nailed the inspiration, and the unique bowl will require consistent care. Personally, I will always stick to my mixer with a stainless steel bowl. These materials are why the two-decade-old KitchenAid I have is still truckin’ with no extra maintenance. It’s also just extremely easy to keep clean from recipe to recipe, which is important for a constant baker like myself.

You can shop this brand-new mixer at KitchenAid or Williams Sonoma before it sells out. If you’re looking for a new mixer, we’ve listed some of our team’s favorite mixers below. Either way, now’s the best time to grab one if you’re in the market, since we’re finally in peak baking season.
