Ganga Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Jyestha month. According to religious beliefs, Ganga descended on earth on Jyestha Shukla Dashami. He saved the ancestors of King Bhagirath, due to which he attained salvation. On the occasion of Ganga Dussehra, people bathe in the river Ganga and worship Mother Ganga, so that sins can be eradicated and salvation can be attained after death. May 30, 2023, will be celebrated on Tuesday.

One should take a dip in the holy river Ganga on the day of Ganga Dussehra. You can also take a dip in a pond or river located near you. Chant the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivayai Narayanyai Dussehraai Gangayai Namah’ while taking bath. After bathing in the Ganges, perform Havan while chanting the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivayai Narayanyai Dashahrayai Gangayai Swaha’. If you are at home, then you can take bath on this day by mixing Ganges water in the bath water. Donating to poor and needy people on the day of Ganga Dussehra is considered very auspicious.
