Lalit Kishore Tiwari became a councilor, the mayor administered the oath, where was the problem?

Civic elections were held in Faizullaganj ward of Uttar Pradesh in 2023. BJP’s Pradeep Shukla won that election, while Samajwadi Party’s Lalit Kishore lost the election by a few votes. After the elections, Lalit Kishore Tiwari made serious allegations against Pradeep Shukla. According to these allegations, Pradeep Shukla had hidden information related to himself in the affidavit during the elections. On the basis of these claims, Lalit Kishore had filed a petition in the High Court. Lalit Kishore’s claims were proved true in the court’s decision, after which Pradeep was removed from the post of councilor and Lalit was made the new councilor.

This matter belongs to Lucknow High Court, where the judge had given the verdict regarding this matter in December 2025 itself. Also ordered to remove Pradeep Shukla from the post. On 4th February, Lalit Kishore was ordered to take oath, but despite this the oath was not taken for three months. However, after the court order, Lalit Kishore took oath as a councilor on 24th May.

Why was Pradeep Shukla removed from the post of councilor?

Lalit Kishore had told the court judge that Pradeep Shukla had not given details related to himself in the election nomination papers. According to the allegation, Pradeep has two wives, about which he did not mention in the letter. Along with this, things related to property, land and house worth crores were also hidden. When these allegations were investigated, Lalit Kishore’s claims and allegations were proved true before the court.

The High Court made Lalit Kishore the elected councilor as he was the runner-up in the 2023 elections. According to the decision, Lalit Kishore was to take oath on 4 February 2026, which was not done. After that Lalit again approached the court. Seeing this, the bench of High Court Judge Rajan Rai ordered the oath taking ceremony in front of the Mayor on Sunday. There is an atmosphere of happiness in the Samajwadi Party due to this decision of the court. After Lalit took oath, party leaders raised slogans of ‘Law Zindabad’ and ‘Satyamev Jayate’.
