Marco Rubio said on racial comments against Indians – there are stupid people in America too
New Delhi, 24 May. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed a joint press conference with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on the second day of his four-day visit to India. During this, he described the racial comments made against Indians as the actions of stupid people and said that America is a welcoming country.
America is a welcoming country
In response to a question on racial comments against Indians in America, Rubio said, ‘I am not able to understand what to say on this. But I take such comments very seriously. There are some stupid people in every country in the world. There are such people here and in America also some people keep making stupid comments, but America is a country that welcomes people. People from all over the world have integrated themselves into American society and have made a major contribution to the country’s progress.
Contribution of Indian community in America appreciated
Marco Rubio praised the contribution of the Indian community in America and said, ‘Indian companies have invested more than $20 billion in the American economy. We want this investment to continue further. The expertise of Indian professionals has greatly benefited the American economy.
Changes in visa and immigration policy are not just for India
On changes in visa and immigration policy, Rubio made it clear that America’s new policies are being implemented not just for India but for the entire world. In the last few years, more than 20 million people have entered America illegally, due to which reform of the immigration system has become necessary.
America is modernizing its immigration system for the 21st century.
On the recent changes in J1, F1 and H1B visa rules, he said that America is modernizing its immigration system according to the 21st century. There may be problems and challenges in this process for some time, but ultimately the new system will be more effective and better than before.

This policy has not been made targeting any one country
Rubio said, ‘Every year about 1 million people become permanent residents of America and contribute to the development of the country. Immigration has made America prosperous, but with the changing times, it is also necessary to improve the system. He also said that the impact of the new changes may be more visible on countries like India because India sends a large number of high-skilled professionals to the US. However, he reiterated that this policy has not been made targeting any one country.
After the completion of the process, the new system will be more effective and better than before.
The US Secretary of State said that America is currently going through the process of major reform in its immigration system. He acknowledged that some problems and challenges may arise during this change, but after the completion of the process, the new system will be more effective and better than before.
He said, ‘America is currently improving the system through which it is decided how many people will come to the country, who will come and when. During reform or change in any system, there comes a transition period, in which it is natural to have some problems and challenges. We are modernizing our immigration system according to the 21st century, so that it proves to be better not only for America but also for the people coming to America.
Rubio further said that when this process is completed, America will have a more efficient and sustainable immigration system than before. He said, ‘I think that the new system can prove to be more beneficial than before for workers and innovators coming to America from India. However, there will definitely be some difficulties in this period of change.
He said, ‘I want to make it clear that these changes are not being made targeting India. These are applicable to the whole world. Its impact may be more visible on countries like India, because a large number of high-skilled professionals come to America from there, but ultimately our goal is to create a better, more effective and sustainable system.
