Mirzapur, Wall hanging and footmats prepared by the women of Khajuri village in Mizarpur, Uttar Pradesh, will now shine on the international stage.
Mirzapur’s Footmate and Wall Hanging have been selected for the Carpet Fair to be held in Japan in the year 2021. Poor Motivation Footmats and wallhangs designed by women of self-help groups are attracting the Japanese. This is the reason that the products here will be seen in the handmade carpet fair to be held abroad next year.
Women of the group have been invited to the fair to be held in Japan, who will get the products of UP abroad.
Poor Prerna Self Help Group Director Afsana Begum said, the women of the group earn two to two and a half million rupees per year. Women have already started selling wall hangings, foot mats and show pieces across the state.
Under the ODOP scheme launched by the UP government, not only the women of the Poor Prerna Self Help Group, but also the women of the Taj and Azad Prerna Group are now weaving wallhangs, foot mats showpieces and handmade clothes and starting supplies to the traders.
District Mission Director Ramesh Priyadarshi said, Local weavers of handicraft products are carrying forward the centuries-old heritage. We are constantly engaged in providing a platform to these women through various programs. Not only has the group made itself financially empowered under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, but has also given a big boost to the carpet business.
