More ethanol production will reduce dependence on foreign countries: Dr. Seema Paroha
Kanpur. Under the project jointly running between NSI and Advanta Group at National Sugar Institute, Kanpur, mega sweet variety of Chari was sown in the agricultural farm of the Institute. The boiler worship program was completed amidst Vedic chanting on November 21, 2024 in the sugar laboratory located at the institute for the production of ethanol from sugarcane. Crushing of sweet cherries is proposed in the institute's factory from 26 to 27 November, 2024.
On the occasion of the Boiler Puja program, Director of the Institute, Prof. Seema Paroha said that under the ambitious program of the Government of India, it is proposed to produce ethanol from many other feed stocks besides sugarcane juice for blending in petrol. Taking a step in this direction, work is being done to produce ethanol from sweet cherries. Prof. Paroha said that our joint effort is to produce ethanol in maximum quantity so that the dependence on foreign countries for petroleum products can be reduced and the country's valuable foreign exchange can be saved by reducing imports. The main objective of this trial is to include sweet cherry among the main sources of ethanol production.
On this occasion, Shri Sanjay Chauhan, Assistant Professor of Sugar Engineering said that after the crushing of sweet sorghum in the sugar laboratory, the sugarcane crushing season will start from the month of January. Sugar Laboratory is an important part of the institute in which practical information is given to the students studying in various courses in the institute. This is the only sugar mill of its kind not only in India but in the world. Mihir Mandal, Assistant Professor Sugar Craft and Shri Virendra Kumar, Senior Mechanical Engineer etc. were present.
