New Delhi,

A 30-year-old Indian-origin woman allegedly committed suicide in New York, accusing her husband and in-laws of domestic violence. In a heart-wrenching video, a woman named Mandeep Kaur narrated her ordeal and said “they forced me to die”.

In a video purportedly recorded before his death, Mandeep said, “The people responsible for my death are my husband and my in-laws. He didn’t let me live. He has always been beating me for the last 8 years.

Mandeep is saying in his video, “I have endured the torture of my husband for the last 8 years thinking that he will improve one day but it did not happen. He assaulted me for the last 8 years. I tried everything. I am being abused daily. I can’t stand the torture anymore.”

She has also accused her husband of infidelity. Mandeep said in the video, “I ignored it and came here (New York). But here he started beating me, whether he was drunk or not. They continued their affair.”

The family members of Mandeep in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh had also tried to reconcile the two. Mandeep alleged that her husband kidnapped and thrashed her for three days. After that his father decided to file a complaint with the police. Mandeep claimed that after the complaint was filed with the police, her husband came to her and pleaded to withdraw the complaint.

Talking about withdrawing the complaint, Mandeep said, “I tried to save the marriage but my in-laws did not allow it to happen.”

In the video purportedly shot before his death, Mandeep said, “He will be accountable to God and Karma will see him. He has forced me to die. I have been forced to leave the world leaving my children.”

After Mandeep’s suicide, the “Kaur Movement” was also launched on the Internet to get justice for the woman of Indian origin. Kaur has two daughters aged four and six.

Meanwhile, Mandeep’s sister Kuldeep Kaur claimed that the domestic violence started soon after the couple moved to New York. Kuldeep Kaur told news agency ANI, “My sister got married in February 2015. Soon, they moved to New York and he started torturing her. He wanted a son and Rs 50 lakh in dowry.”

An FIR has been registered against the husband and his in-laws at Najibabad police station in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, the New York Police Department is also investigating the matter. Mandeep Kaur’s family is trying in many ways to bring her body back to India.
