Ranchi : Voters showed enthusiasm in forming the government of the village. In the first phase of Panchayat elections, voters were seen standing in the queue since morning to exercise their franchise in 9819 seats on Saturday. According to the report till evening, 68.15 percent voting took place in 72 blocks of 21 districts. This figure may increase after the final report of the presiding officers comes. The counting of votes in these seats will be held on May 17. In the first phase of polling, a large number of women were seen in almost all the polling stations. More women than men voted in many polling stations. A large number of elderly and handicapped were also seen exercising their franchise. The highest voter turnout was recorded in Deoghar at 76 per cent, while the lowest was 61.65 per cent in Lohardaga. The biggest thing is that the voting was completely peaceful in 1,117 panchayats in 72 blocks of 21 districts. Barring sporadic incidents at a few places, no disturbance has been reported anywhere. In the first phase, 30,221 candidates were in the fray for the four posts. Of these, 17,437 were women. Of the total 9,819 seats in this phase, 5,057 were reserved for women. The total seats include 7304 seats for Gram Panchayat members, 1,117 for Mukhiyas, 1,256 for Panchayat Samiti members and 143 for Zilla Parishad members. 17,822 candidates were in the fray for Gram Panchayat member, 6,890 for Mukhiya, 4,694 for Panchayat Samiti member and 815 for Zilla Parishad member. In the Panchayat elections held in the year 2015, the average voter turnout was 73.29 percent. Talking about the voting in the first phase of that election, 74.49 percent votes were cast. However, voting was held in all the districts at that time. This time in the first phase only 21 districts have voted. It is noteworthy that in this phase 6085 ward members, 04 chieftains, 140 panchayat samiti members and 04 zilla parishad members have been elected unopposed. According to the information, 63 percent voting has been done in Hazaribagh, 68.47 percent in Chatra, 63.09 percent in Latehar, 65.43 percent in Palamu, 70.45 percent in Ranchi and 73.60 percent in Sahibganj.
