Veteran Punjab Congress leader and former president Sunil Jakhar has quit the party today. Before saying goodbye, he slammed the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi. He appealed to save Punjab. He said goodbye to the party on Facebook Live called ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
Jakhar, a three-time MLA and one-time MP, removed all ties with the party from his social media handle. He removed Congress from his Twitter bio and replaced the party flag with the tricolor on his Twitter account. Jakhar said he was saddened by the disciplinary panel stripping him of all party posts following allegations of anti-party activities against him by some Punjab Congress leaders.
He also blamed Congress MP Ambika Soni’s statement for the party’s defeat in the state assembly elections earlier this year – “the consequences of being a Hindu chief minister in Punjab”.
