The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has expressed support for the opposition’s vice-president candidate. Told party leader Keshav Rao on Friday that he is supporting Margaret Alva in the Vice Presidential election. TRS leader Rao said party president K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to support the joint opposition candidate Alva. Let us inform that Alva had met TRS MPs on Thursday evening.
Even in the presidential election, the party had voted for Yashwant Sinha.
In the presidential election too, TRS supported the opposition and voted for Yashwant Sinha. Congress leader Alva has been fielded as the opposition’s candidate for the vice-president, while the ruling NDA’s candidate is Jagdeep Dhankhar. The Vice Presidential election will be held on Saturday i.e. 6th August and its results will also come tomorrow. The tenure of the current Vice President Venkaiah Naidu is ending on August 11.
This method is adopted in the election of Vice President
The Vice-President is elected under the proportional representative system. For this a special method of voting is adopted. This system is called Single Transferable Vote System. The number of members whose votes are cast in the Vice Presidential election is divided by 2. After this, one is added to the result obtained. It is noteworthy that to win this Vice Presidential election, it is necessary to get 394 votes.
BJP has more than 300 Lok Sabha MPs
At present, the BJP has 303 Lok Sabha MPs. Whereas the Rajya Sabha has 93 MPs. If we look at the total number of votes in the Vice Presidential election, the BJP has a figure of 395, only 394 members are needed to win.
