Will make Delhi’s judiciary a model in coming times: Kejriwal

New Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that it is our endeavor that together with everyone we can present Delhi’s judiciary as a model in front of the whole country in the coming times.

During the inauguration ceremony of the new court building to be built in the Karkardooma Court complex on Friday, Mr. Kejriwal said that we will not allow anything to be lacking from the Delhi government to strengthen the justice system. We increased the budget of Delhi’s judiciary from Rs.660 crores to Rs.2000 crores in five years.

He further said that the Delhi Government started the Welfare Scheme for Lawyers in November 2019 and so far 30 thousand lawyers have been registered in this. Under the welfare scheme at the time of Corona, 1867 lawyers got the benefit of medical insurance and 157 got the benefit of life insurance. So far Rs 21 crore has been given for medical insurance and Rs 15.70 crore for life insurance.

Mr Kejriwal said that today is a very happy day. 44 new court rooms have been inaugurated in Karkardooma Court Complex. He said that so many wonderful courts have been built that now even the film makers will have to change the setting of their courts. After coming here and seeing the court, they will also feel that such courts exist. We all know that the judicial infrastructure of Delhi is the best in the country. The governments before us also did a lot of work and we also carried forward that good work. I have said on every platform that justice system is the most important thing in any society. If the judicial system is not strong, then the society falls apart. Whatever will be done by the Delhi government from us to strengthen the judicial system, we will not allow anything to be lacking. This has been my assurance from every platform.

The Chief Minister said that it is said that whatever God does, he does well. Lawyers’ welfare scheme was pending for many years. There had been a lot of conversation on this. The lawyers demanded that life insurance and health insurance should be given to him and his family members. I talked to myself several times. After all the discussions, this scheme was passed on November 2019. In which about 50 crores of rupees we did a session for the lawyers.

About 30 thousand lawyers of Delhi have registered in this scheme, in which health insurance up to Rs 5 lakh is given to every lawyer and his family and life insurance of Rs 10 lakh is given. This scheme was passed in November 2019 and luckily, three months later, in February 2020, Corona arrived. It seems as if God knew earlier that Corona was going to come and this scheme was passed just before that.

Lawyers got a lot of benefit from this scheme during Corona. 1867 Lawyers took advantage of medical insurance under this scheme. Claims of around 400 people are pending. Lawyers got Rs 21 crore under medical insurance. Due to which he could get good treatment and his life was saved. During the time of Karona, 157 lawyers died and their family got about 15.70 crores of life insurance.
