On the pretext of helping, first gave intoxicants to the woman, then gang-raped her and made a video

New Delhi: A shameful incident has come to light from Davanagere district of Karnataka, where a case of gang rape of a 41-year-old woman has been registered after allegedly giving her intoxicants. When did this incident happen?

According to the police, this incident took place on the evening of June 3 in a village under Basavapatna police station area. However, the matter did not come to light for several days. On June 8, a video clip allegedly made by the woman in an inebriated state, started going viral in various WhatsApp groups, after which information about the incident became public.

The victim told in her complaint that after a domestic dispute, she was leaving home and going towards her village. Meanwhile, two persons came to him and started asking for help. The victim alleges that both of them gave her a soft drink in which some intoxicant was mixed. After drinking the beverage, the woman’s condition deteriorated and she became unconscious.

Rape video went viral

Investigation has revealed that the woman was taken to a deserted field located on the outskirts of the village in an unconscious state. Many people already present there sexually assaulted her and the victim alleges that the accused also recorded her photographs and videos during this period. A few days later, when the villagers told the woman that her video was being circulated on social media and messaging platforms, she contacted the police and lodged a complaint.

10 accused arrested

Davangere Superintendent of Police Shekhar HT said that on the basis of the woman’s statement, various sections of the Indian Justice Code, including gang rape and other serious crimes, have been registered. A case has been registered under this. Relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act have also been imposed. Let us tell you that the police have arrested all the 10 named accused and the investigation of the case is going on. The officials have inspected the incident site and collected evidence and have also seized the mobile phones of the accused so that complete information about the source of the video and its dissemination can be gathered.
