China’s smartphone maker OnePlus has said that it will invest Rs 100 crore in India to reach small cities. The investment will be made on online and offline retail partnerships. This investment will be done to increase the share of premium smartphone segment in tier-2 cities beyond metro cities.
The number of offline stores will be 8 thousand
Navneet Nakra, VP and Chief Strategy Officer, OnePlus, said that we currently have more than 5000 offline stores across the country. It also includes partner stores. Their number will be increased to 8000 stores in the coming quarter. Nakra told that there are currently 30 OnePlus Experience stores in the country. 14 new experience stores will be opened in the next 6 months.
Largest experience store will be opened in Hyderabad
Navneet Nakra said that we will be opening OnePlus’s largest experience store in the Nizam Palace in Hyderabad by the end of this year. Apart from this, we are planning to expand the service center network to 100 cities by next year. Currently, OnePlus has a service center network in 65 cities.
R&D Center opened last year
China’s smartphone maker OnePlus launched its Research and Development (R&D) Center in India only last year. Nakra said the company is working on a plan to achieve long-term growth in the country. The company’s R&D team currently has 300 employees. This number is expected to double in the coming months. Nakra said that since entry in 2014, India is one of the major markets for OnePlus.
Production in India since February 2018
Nakra said that under the Make in India campaign, the company has been producing many of its devices in India since February 2018. We have announced to produce OnePlus TV and OnePlus Nord in India only. From 2021, all OnePlus TVs will be made locally in India. He said that 100 percent of OnePlus smartphones are being produced in India only. This includes the OnePlus-8 series, the OnePlus Nord and the recently launched OnePlus 8T.
