The Algarve in Portugal has surpassed 18 competitors to be named “world’s leading beach destination” at this year’s World Travel Awards.
The Philippines, with a coastline stretching over 36,000 kilometers, held the title in previous years.
The Algarve in Portugal’s southernmost region is famous for its stunning golden beaches, dramatic cliffs, sea caves and sunny climate, making it a top European beach destination.
Thanks to its world-class golf resorts, fresh seafood, historic towns and warm hospitality, it attracts millions for relaxing holidays and outdoor adventures every year.
The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, celebrate excellence in the travel and tourism industry and are referred to as the “Oscars of the travel industry.”
Winners are determined through votes cast by travel professionals and the public.
