President Donald Trump angry over cancellation of H-1B visa fee
United States: A US federal judge on Monday struck down President Donald Trump’s policy that imposed a fee of $100,000 on H-1B visas. According to CBS News, U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin ruled in favor of the 20 states that challenged the new fees announced by Trump in September. The US judge believes that the Trump administration has violated its jurisdiction by imposing a tax of $100,000 on H-1B applications without the permission of Congress. The judge, appointed by former US President Barack Obama, wrote in his 42-page decision that “there is no statutory power that allows the imposition of a tax of $100,000 on H-1B applications.” The US Department of Homeland Security, in a statement, called the judge’s decision ‘blatant judicial activism’ and defended the Trump administration’s immigration reforms.

What is H-1B visa?
Let us tell you that the H-1B visa program was started by Congress in 1990. In America, under this, foreign employees are allowed to be appointed in specialized professional fields for a maximum of six years. Congress has limited the number of H-1B visas to 65,000 each year, and an additional 20,000 visas can be issued for people with advanced degrees. Under this, companies also have to pay some fixed fees, which usually ranges between $1,700 to $4,500. But last year, on Trump’s orders, a fee of $100,000 was added to all new H-1B applications. According to US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) data, 71 percent of H-1B visa beneficiaries in FY 2024 were from India. Whereas only 11.7 percent beneficiaries were from China.
