Pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal Singh becomes stronger, gets the support of this veteran before 2027

In the politics of Punjab, the political power of jailed MP Amritpal Singh seems to be continuously increasing. His party Akali Dal Waris Punjab De is continuously adding new political faces and now a big name is going to be added to this list. Former MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali has joined Akali Dal Waris Punjab De today. There was political speculation about this for some time and now it is being considered as a big political advantage for the Amritpal camp. Before the assembly elections to be held in Punjab next year, this Panthak party is continuously connecting with the grassroots leaders and raising the concerns of political parties like Shiromani Akali Dal.

Manpreet Singh Ayali has been among the prominent leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal for a long time and was considered one of the leaders close to Sukhbir Badal. He was also an MLA from 2012 to 2017 and after this also won elections in 2019 and 2022 on Akali Dal ticket. Although, he later joined Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit), but due to growing differences within the organization, some time ago he resigned from all posts and distanced himself from the party. Today he has officially joined hands with Amritpal’s party.

The party has two MPs

Amritpal Singh has emerged as a big face in Punjab in the last few years. He has made his mark in sectarian politics and radical politics. At present he is in jail but despite this his political power is increasing. While in jail, he contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an independent and won by a huge margin. After this he got the support of another face of Panthak politics and MP Sarabjit Singh Khalsa. After this he jointly formed a political party. At present, this party has two MPs and Panthak people are continuously joining their party.

Towards becoming a party with two MPs

With the joining of Manpreet Singh Ayali, the political scope of the party is considered to be bigger. Akali Dal Waris Punjab De is moving ahead under the leadership of Khadur Sahib MP Amritpal Singh. Along with this, Faridkot MP Sarabjit Singh Khalsa is also counted among the prominent faces of the party and thus the party is now believed to have the political support of two MPs including Amritpal.

Presenting challenge to Akali Dal

Shiromani Akali Dal has been the biggest face of Panthak politics in Punjab politics. Before and after independence, the party identified itself as a party of the Sikhs. However, the party was voted out of power in the 2017 assembly elections and after this the politics of Punjab completely changed. There was a split in Shiromani Akali Dal over leadership and many leaders left and joined other parties. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party also benefited from this. Now in his place many other Panthak faces have emerged, who are uniting under the leadership of Amritpal Singh. In such a situation, Shiromani Akali Dal, which is searching for its political ground, may face difficulties.

Contenders for CM post

Amritpal Singh has been declared by his party as the CM candidate for the assembly elections to be held in 2027. His party is campaigning for him despite him being in jail. Many big leaders are also demanding his release from jail. Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjeet) is also demanding an alliance with Amritpal Singh’s party. However, the issue with the alliance is still stuck. Many sect leaders are associating with Amritpal. The party is projecting him as CM face in 2027.
