Punjab News: Under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Mann, Punjab has set another record. Taking a historic decision in the education sector, the Punjab Government has launched a state-level Career Guidance Program in partnership with IIT Madras promoter. With this initiative, Punjab has become the first state in the country to implement such a programme. This scheme, launched by the government of CM Bhagwant Mann, is being considered a big step towards connecting students with modern career options and strengthening career guidance in schools.
More than 5 thousand teachers will become trained ‘career mentors’
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that under this program started under the guidance of CM Bhagwant Mann, more than 5,000 teachers will be given world-class training. These teachers will later play the role of trained ‘career mentors’ in their respective schools and show the right direction to the children.
Teachers will get free online training
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the program will provide free online training to teachers for basic career counselling, essential skills for classroom sessions and one-to-one guidance. Educators will gain insight into the Top 100 high-demand careers, structured assessment tools, and emerging career trends at national and global levels. IIT Madras promoter will provide continuous academic support and digital resources.

Teachers will become the backbone of career guidance
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that the aim of this partnership is to prepare teachers as effective career advisors. After receiving the training, teachers will be able to identify the capabilities of students, explore new age professions and choose evidence and competency based career paths. This initiative, led by CM Bhagwant Mann, is the first attempt to take state-level career counseling to schools.

Students from rural and backward areas will get benefits
Punjab School Education Board Chairman Dr Amarpal Singh said this initiative will especially benefit students from rural and backward areas. This will give them easy access to high-quality career guidance, which was earlier limited only to private counselors. Over the next few months, thousands of teachers will gain new skills, new confidence and the ability to shape the future of millions of children.
