According to university sources, various student organizations have been pressurizing girl students for the benefit of menstruation for some time now. A CUSAT official said, “It will be different for every student. Each student can claim two per cent of his total attendance as menstruation benefit. Hence the order does not provide for a specific number of holidays. This order will be applicable to girl students of all streams studying in the university. This is also expected to be implemented with immediate effect.
Namita George, president of the university’s students’ union, expressed happiness that their demands have been accepted without any objection. He said, “As per the rules, CUSAT students are required to have 75% attendance in each semester to appear for the exam, but in the new order, a relaxation of two per cent will be given to female students. In such a situation, now they will be allowed to take the exam even with 73 percent attendance.
