Rupee reaches abyss against US dollar, falls by 12 paise to its all-time low of 85.06
New Delhi: Amidst the huge fall in the stock market, the rupee also reached an all-time low against the dollar. The rupee fell 12 paise to its all-time low of 85.06 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday. The US Federal Reserve has adjusted its projections for 2025, indicating a more cautious monetary policy stance, Forex traders said. This will put pressure on emerging market currencies including the Indian rupee.

In the Interbank Foreign Exchange Market, the rupee opened with a weak trend and crossed the level of 85.00 against the dollar. The dollar fell to an all-time low of 85.06 against the US currency amid demand from importers, outflow of foreign capital and a soft trend in domestic equity markets, hitting an all-time low of 85.06 against the US currency, its previous close. Shows a fall of 12 paise from the price. The rupee had closed at 84.94 against the US dollar on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US dollar's position against six major currencies, stood at 108.03, up 0.01 per cent. International standard Brent crude fell 0.42 percent to $ 73.08 per barrel. According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were sellers on Wednesday and sold shares worth a net Rs 1,316.81 crore.
