Second phase of voting today on 26 seats in Jammu and Kashmir Jammu Kashmir Elections 2024

Latest News :- Voting will be held today on 26 seats in the second phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Assembly elections are being held in 3 phases after 10 years for a total of 90 assembly constituencies in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. According to this, in the first phase, voting was held on 24 seats on 18th. 61.38 percent votes were cast in this. According to this, the second phase of voting will be held today on 26 seats.

In this election, 239 candidates including prominent political leaders including former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, BJP State President Ravinder Raina, Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra are contesting the elections. More than 25 lakh voters are eligible to vote in 15 constituencies under three districts of Kashmir Valley – Srinagar, Putnam and Ganderpal and 11 constituencies under Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu region.

Tariq Hameed Karra: Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra is contesting from Srinagar Central Shalteng constituency. He is contesting from People's Democratic Party's Abdul Quam Bhatt, Awami National Conference Party's Riyaz Ahmed Mir and Apni Party's Zaipar Habib Dar. Former MP Tariq Hameed Karra was earlier in charge of the Mehbooba Mufti-led Peoples Democratic Party. Later, due to disagreement with the People's Democratic Party forming an alliance with the BJP, he resigned as MP and left the party and joined the Congress in 2017.

Omar Abdullah: National Conference Party leader Omar Abdullah is contesting the 2024 assembly elections from two constituencies in Central Kashmir. One of them is Ganderpal constituency, which has been held by Abdullah's family for three generations. In Putgam, another constituency, he is contesting against Syed Muntazir Mehdi of the People's Democratic Party and Agha Syed Ahmed Moosavi of the Awami National Conference.

Ravinder Raina: Jammu and Kashmir BJP state president Ravinder Raina had won the 2014 assembly elections from Navshera constituency in Rajouri district. This time again in the same assembly constituency. However, it is believed that there will be a tough fight between him and Surinder Chaudhary of National Conference Party who is contesting against him.
