Rayudu first announced his retirement, then deleted the tweet

Mumbai: Chennai Super Kings batsman Ambati Rayudu first announced his retirement from IPL career on Twitter on Saturday and then deleted that tweet. In the tweet, Rayudu had said that this will be his last IPL season and he will bid farewell to the IPL for the remaining two matches of the league.

In that tweet, Rayudu wrote, “I am happy to announce that this will be my last IPL. It was great to spend 13 years with two teams. I would like to thank Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings for this wonderful journey. However, this tweet was deleted within 30 minutes. ESPNcricinfo has learned that the Chennai Super Kings management had spoken to Rayudu about this, after which he deleted the tweet.

By then many former players had written congratulatory messages for him. Irfan Pathan wrote that he has always been a fan of Rayudu’s batting and his energy on the field.

This is not the first time Rayudu has announced his retirement. In 2019 also Rayudu did something similar and then came back from retirement.

Rayudu has won five IPL trophies together with Mumbai and Chennai. Only Rohit Sharma is ahead of him, who has six IPL titles to his name. Rayudu captured the IPL in 2013, 2015 and 2017 with Mumbai, while in 2018 and 2021 he won the important title with Chennai. Being a part of the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL), he was not a part of IPL in 2008 and 2009. Rayudu has scored 4187 runs in 187 IPL matches with the help of 22 half-centuries and one century.
