The tension that the Israel-Hezbollah war has put on the whole world is more worrying for industrialist Gautam Adani because his Rs 10,000 crore is at stake due to the unrest in Israel. The Israeli city in which Gautam Adani’s group has made such a huge investment has a deep connection with the history of India. This city has connections with Indian cities like Jodhpur, Patiala and Hyderabad, while at present a corner of the country’s capital Delhi is also known by the name of this city of Israel.

G20 summit was held in India last year. Then, as an alternative to trade through the Suez Canal, a new economic corridor ‘India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor’ (IMEC) was proposed. This corridor is to start from Mumbai, India. Have to reach Europe via Haifa in Israel. Gautam Adani’s ‘Adani Port and SEZ’ company is doing the work of developing Haifa Port in this city of Israel and the independence of this city has a connection with India.

India liberated Haifa

Haifa city of Israel is the third largest city there. It is a center of world trade because a large part of the trade between Europe and Asia is completed through this port. When we turn the pages of history, we come to know that the work of liberating this city of Israel was done by the brave soldiers of India.

It is about the First World War. At that time India was a part of the British Raj. At that time, India was ruled by the British along with the local princely states. At that time there was a treaty between the local princely states and the British government. One provision in this treaty was that the British government got to use a part of the army of the Indian rulers in its wars.

A war was also fought for the independence of Haifa during the First World War. On 23 September 1918, the Ottoman Empire ended over the city of Haifa and the British flag was hoisted there. Later, around the time of India’s independence in 1948, the British also left this city. But Indian soldiers made a big contribution in liberating this city.

Connection to Jodhpur, Hyderabad and Patiala

To liberate Haifa, a brigade of soldiers from the princely states of India was formed. One of these was the ’15th (Imperial Service) Cavalry Brigade, which reached Egypt through the Suez Canal at that time. There she became a part of the British Empire’s army and this contingent fought the ‘Battle of Haifa’. Soldiers from many princely states of India went to this brigade. In this, most of the soldiers were from Jodhpur, Hyderabad, Patiala and Mysore, while some soldiers were also from Kashmir and Kathiawar.

About 84 soldiers of this brigade lost their lives in World War-1, while more than 120 soldiers were injured. Even today, the Indian Army celebrates ‘Haifa Day’ in honor of these soldiers. Not only this, a ‘War Memorial’ has also been built for this brigade near Teen Murti Bhawan in Delhi. Because of this war memorial, it was named ‘Teen Murti’, whose name was changed to ‘Teen Murti Haifa Chowk’ in 2018. The statues of three soldiers installed in this war memorial are of soldiers from Jodhpur, Hyderabad and Mysore.

Adani’s Rs 10,000 crore at stake

Adani Group has got the contract for the development of Haifa Port built in this city. A joint venture has been formed for this. Adani Port has 70 percent stake in it and Israel’s Gadd Port has 30 percent stake. For this, Adani Group has paid 1.2 billion dollars (about Rs 10,000 crore). But due to Israel being embroiled in the war, its development is not complete yet. It has been possible.
