Preity Zinta made her Bollywood debut with Dil Se in 1998 and stole the hearts of many with her impeccable performances and adorable smile. However her journey from middle-class upbringing to becoming a top-notch actress has been far from easy.
Born on January 31, 1975, her father, Durganand Zinta, an officer in Indian army tragically passed away in car accident when she was just 13 years old. Her mother, Nilparbha, was critically injured in the same accident and was bedridden for two years. This life-altering event forced Preity to mature quickly and became a turning point in her life.
After completing her graduation in criminal psychology, Preity ventured into modelling. Her journey began with first TV Commercial for Perk Chocolates. Following her debut, she started receiving several offers and gave superhit films like Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer-Zara, Koi…Mil Gaya, Dil Chahta Hai and more.
As per some earlier reports, the actress was offered a Rs 600 crore worth property, which she did not accept. She was considered a daughter by filmmaker Shandaar Amrohi, who is the son of veteran filmmaker Kamal Amrohi. Reportedly, Shandaar wanted to leave all his property to Preity Zinta. However, she declined to the offer. The property’s worth reportedly stood at Rs 600 crore.
Zinta has been involved in several controversies, most notably when she stood as a witness in 2003 Bharat Shah case. The actress testified against the Indian Mafia despite receiving extortion threats during the filming of Chori Chori Chupke Chupke. Unlike other witnesses who withdrew their statements, Zinta stood firm. She was under witness protection and stayed out of the public eye for two months.
Talking about her personal life, Zinta dated businessman Ness Wadia from February 2005 to May 2009. Their relationship frequently made headlines, with rumours of engagement and breakups. In 2014, she filed a complaint against Wadia, accusing him of molestation, threats and abuse during a IPL match at Wankhede Stadium.
Preity Zinta got married to Gene Goodenough on February 29, 2016, in Los Angeles. The duo became parents to twin girl in 2021. The actress has been living in Los Angeles ever since she tied the knot with Gene.
