North Korea: There have been 15 new deaths in North Korea from ‘fever’ in the last 24 hours. The total death toll in the country rose to 42 in just three days. The media reported this on Sunday. Sputnik News Agency quoted KCNA as saying that more than 2,96,000 new patients have appeared in North Korea. Altogether more than 8,20,000 people have become ill. On Thursday, North Korea announced its first wave of COVID-19 cases in the country, as several citizens were found to be infected with Omicron. According to KCNA, an ‘unrecognized fever’ has been spreading in the country since late April. On Friday, North Korea reported its first death from the coronavirus.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), top officials including the country’s leader Kim Jong Un held a crisis politburo meeting to discuss the outbreak and announced they would implement maximum emergency virus control systems. The state-run KCNA news agency, citing North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said the country faces the biggest challenge over the spread of COVID-19 since the founding of the republic.

Kim said the country should focus on implementing anti-coronavirus measures and promoting them to prevent the spread of the disease.
