Ujjwala Yojana: In view of the continuous rise in the prices of petroleum products in the international market, the government on Friday extended the subsidy of Rs 200 per LPG cylinder under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for one year. Explain that this step will benefit 9.6 crore families.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a subsidy of Rs 200 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year to be provided to PMUY beneficiaries. Explain that till March 1, 2023, there were 9.59 crore PMUY beneficiaries.
Further, the minister said that the total expenditure for the financial year 2022-23 would be Rs 6,100 crore and that for 2023-24 would be Rs 7,680 crore. The subsidy is deposited directly into the bank accounts of the eligible beneficiaries.
Thakur said that international prices of LPG have increased sharply due to various geo-political reasons and it is important to protect PMUY beneficiaries from higher LPG prices. An official release said that PMUY is a targeted support to consumers to encourage them for continued use of LPG.
