Former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad got big responsibility, elected president of Karnataka Cricket Association

KSCA President Venkatesh Prasad: New leadership has started in Karnataka cricket. Former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad was elected the new president of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in the elections held on Sunday (December 7). Prasad, contesting the elections on behalf of Team Game Changers, defeated Brajesh Patel supported KN Shant Kumar in a tough contest. His entry into cricket administration is being considered as the beginning of a new and strong chapter for Karnataka cricket.

Prasad panel’s big victory

Along with the post of president, Prasad’s panel won two more important posts of KSCA. His panel member Santosh Menon was elected secretary, while Sujit Soma Sundar got the post of vice president. In this way the entire top leadership has gone into the hands of Prasad’s team. During the election campaign, this panel had prominently raised issues like return of cricket to Chinnaswamy Stadium and providing better facilities for players and fans. Now after the victory, their responsibility has increased even more, because mainstream cricket has been closed for a long time after major incidents in the stadium.

Focus on return of cricket in Chinnaswamy Stadium

Prasad’s team had given maximum emphasis in its manifesto to making Chinnaswamy Stadium ready again for big matches. There has been no major match here since many people lost their lives and many were injured in the stampede after Royal Challengers Bangalore’s title win. Due to security reasons, some matches of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 were also later shifted to Navi Mumbai. In such a situation, fans are hopeful that with the new leadership, domestic and international cricket will return soon by strengthening the security of the stadium.

DK Shivkumar gave assurance

On the election day, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and KSCA life member DK Shivakumar also came to vote. While talking to the media, he clearly said that IPL matches will not be allowed to move out of Chinnaswamy Stadium. He said, “It is a question of the prestige of Bengaluru and Karnataka. We will ensure that IPL matches are held here and such incidents do not happen again in future.” He also said that if needed, a new international cricket stadium will also be built, so that the cricket heritage of the state can be further strengthened.

Prasad has already indicated that he will focus on administrative strength, better infrastructure and development of players. Under his leadership, there is every possibility that Chinnaswamy will regain its glory and cricket activities will pick up again.
