Chandigarh, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is on a tour of villages these days. Under the mass communication programme, he is meeting people in villages falling under different assembly constituencies and is also spending the night there.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Khattar was on a tour of villages in Mahendragarh district, where his program created ruckus. An announcement by the Haryana CM enraged the people of another village to such an extent that they laid siege to the house where they had stayed for the night. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar reached the adjacent village Dogda Ahir after conducting a program in Simha village. He had to spend the night here. As per the schedule, the local villagers would welcome him and then a meeting was to be held with him. But far from welcoming, the villagers came out on the road in protest against the Chief Minister and surrounded his residence. Khattar remained under house arrest for about four hours.

The matter is that CM Manohar Lal Khattar had reached Simha village of Mahendragarh district on Friday as part of the mass dialogue programme. Here people demanded him to give the status of sub-tehsil to the village. He announced this in a press conference after a meeting with the villagers. When the information about this reached the adjacent village Dogda Ahir, the people there got angry. Khattar’s next program was to be held here, so he decided to oppose the Chief Minister.

As soon as the Haryana CM’s convoy entered the village limits, the demonstration of the villagers started. When Chief Minister Khattar reached his night rest house, the protesters reached there too. Actually, the villagers said that their village is bigger in size than Simha, so only Dogda Ahir should get the status of sub-tehsil. From the local BJP MLA to the top officials of the police-administration tried their best to convince the villagers, but they did not agree.
Angry villagers chased away BJP MLAs to big leaders who came to convince them. He clearly said that till the Chief Minister does not change his decision, he will not be allowed to go for another programme. This created a tense situation in the village. In view of the Chief Minister’s security, a large number of forces were deployed in the entire village. Other senior officers including DGP also reached the spot.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had to change his decision in view of the strong opposition of the villagers and their stubbornness. Late night he sent an invitation to some people of the village to meet him. Then a settlement was reached in talks between the representatives of the villagers and Khattar. According to the information, he blamed the entire mess on the officers. The Chief Minister said that the officials did not provide him the correct feasibility report. Khattar said that he was not aware that Dogda Ahir too had a similar demand. Now they will ask for the feasibility report of both the villages. Only the village whose report is correct will be made sub-tehsil.

The BJP government in Haryana is about to complete 9 years in the next few months. However, in 2019, the party fell short of a majority and had to form a government with the JJP. Government ministers and BJP leaders in the state in the recent past have faced massive protests by common people at public events. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has also faced the opposition of the farmers.
