‘War against drugs’: On 280th day, Punjab Police arrested 81 drug smugglers, 2.2 kg heroin recovered

Yudh Nashe Virudh: On the 280th consecutive day of “War on Drugs”, the massive campaign launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make Punjab drug-free, Punjab Police, in a massive crackdown, raided 251 places. During this state-level operation, 81 drug smugglers were arrested and 60 FIRs were registered. Thus, a total of 39,443 drug smugglers have been arrested since the beginning of the operation.

2.2 kg heroin, 6 kg bhukki, 198 intoxicating pills, and drug money worth Rs 4,310 were recovered from the possession of the smugglers caught during the raid.

5 member cabinet sub-committee also formed

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has already directed the Police Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police to work with determination and commitment to make the state drug-free. A 5-member cabinet sub-committee has also been constituted under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to directly monitor this fight against drugs.

Search operation across the state

In this operation, more than 100 teams of more than 800 police personnel were deployed under the supervision of 57 gazetted officers, who conducted search operations at 251 locations across the state. During the operation, police teams also investigated 277 suspicious persons.

22 persons prepared for treatment

The state government has implemented a three-pronged strategy to eradicate drug abuse – enforcement, de-addiction and prevention. Under this, as part of ‘Nasha Mukti’ campaign, today Punjab Police has prepared 22 persons for de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
