West Indies will enter the field with new energy, 15-member team announced for Sri Lanka series

New Delhi . The West Indies cricket team has been announced for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka. The selectors have made some important changes while selecting the 15-member squad, which clearly indicates that the team management is working on new combinations and strategies to give opportunities to the players keeping in mind the upcoming international events. With this series, West Indies will face its first T20 challenge after the T20 World Cup 2026. This is being considered an important phase of the team’s new direction and preparations in international cricket.

The responsibility of captaincy in the team announced by the West Indies Cricket Board has once again been handed over to Shai Hope. Hope has been one of the key faces of the team in limited overs cricket in recent years and continues to be trusted in leadership roles. This time the selectors have made three major changes in the team and given opportunity to some new players.

Johnson Charles, Quentin Sampson and Jayden Seales have been excluded from the team. Akeem Auguste, Jewel Andrew and Shamar Springer have been included in their place. These changes are being considered important from the point of view of future plans and team balance. By giving opportunities to young players, the team management wants to test new options of talent.

Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph’s non-inclusion in the team has also become a topic of discussion. Joseph, considered the main pillar of the West Indies bowling attack, is still out of selection. In such a situation, the responsibility of the fast bowling department will be more on players like Shamar Joseph, Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd.

Recently an ODI series was played between Sri Lanka and West Indies. However, the weather significantly affected that series. Only one match could be completed in the three-match series, in which Sri Lanka won. Both the remaining matches were canceled due to rain. As a result, Sri Lanka won the series on the basis of sole win. Now in the T20 series, West Indies will try to leave that disappointment behind and perform better.

Team head coach Darren Sammy has also described this series as very important. He believes that after the World Cup, this is a good opportunity to give a new direction to the team and create a strong base. He described the players’ solidarity, fighting spirit and team spirit as the biggest strengths of West Indies cricket. The coaching staff aims to develop better coordination between the players and create a strong unit for competitive cricket.

The West Indies team has long faced a challenge, with many key players preferring franchise and league cricket over international cricket. However, the absence of major league competitions at the current time has left the majority of players available for selection, giving the selectors the opportunity to pick a relatively strong squad.

  • All three T20 matches will be played at the Sabina Park ground in Jamaica. The first match will be held on 11 June, the second on 13 June and the third match on 14 June. West Indies will be looking to take advantage of home conditions and put up a strong performance in the series, while Sri Lanka will take confidence from their recent ODI success. In such a situation, this T20 series between the two teams is expected to be exciting and competitive.
