Ganga Dussehra is a very special festival in Sanatan Dharma. On this day Mother Ganga came to earth from heaven. According to religious beliefs, devotees who bathe, worship and donate in the Ganga on the day of Ganga Dussehra are freed from sins. This year, Ganga Dussehra is falling in the month of Jyestha of the Hindu calendar, which falls in the month of May as per the English calendar. When is Ganga Dussehra?
According to the calendar, the festival of Ganga Dussehra will be celebrated on 25th May. Ganga Dussehra will start from 4:30 am on May 25, which will end at 5:10 am on May 26.
The auspicious time of bathing in Ganga will start from 4.04 in the morning. By taking bath during this time, the sins of the devotees are washed away. There is a special belief of taking bath in Ganga on this day, but those who will not be able to go to bathe in Ganga, they should take bath by adding Ganga water to the water at home. Mother Ganga should be worshiped right after bathing. According to religious beliefs, by bathing in Ganga, worshiping and donating, a person can get freedom from many types of sins.

What is the method of worship?
On this day, one should stand on the banks of Mother Ganga and light ghee lamps. Flowers and fruits should also be offered, after which ‘Gange Cha Yamune Chaiva Godavari Saraswati. Narmade Sindhu Kaveri Jalesmin Sannidhi Kuru. Mantra should be chanted.
Devotees who are going to worship Mother Ganga at home should also chant this mantra 108 times. Apart from this, on the day of Ganga Dussehra, devotees should donate cold water, sattu, fan, food items, money and clothes, so that sins are erased and virtues are attained.
