‘Which woman would want to remove her vermilion?’ The pain of the wife who lost her husband in crocodile attack

What happened on the ghat of Saryu river in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, was no less than a scene from a horror movie. Noida resident Deepak Verma, who had come to attend the funeral of his mother-in-law, was made its victim by a huge crocodile on the river bank. After this heart-wrenching Gonda crocodile attack, a new and deep family dispute has now arisen. In fact, the deceased’s wife Rekha has broken her silence on all the speculations and serious allegations in which she was being blamed for carrying out this incident as part of a conspiracy.

On that ill-fated evening of 20th May, when Deepak came down to wash his hands and feet on the banks of Saryu river, an ambushed crocodile suddenly pulled him into deep water. According to local people, the administration was informed immediately after the incident, but by then it was too late. After about 24 hours of hard work, his mutilated body could be pulled out from the river. Now after this tragic accident, a fierce phase of allegations and counter-allegations has started in the family.

‘I had stopped him from going there…’ – Wife’s pain spills out

It is being told that Deepak and Rekha had a love marriage in the year 2020 of their own free will. Both of them also have a four year old innocent daughter. Everything was fine in the initial days, but after some time of marriage, family discord increased so much that both of them were living separately from each other for the last three years. Deepak had reached Gonda from Noida after hearing the news of his mother-in-law’s demise.

Rekha tearfully tells that she had strictly forbidden her husband from going there, but he remained adamant on attending the funeral. She shudders remembering the incident and says that if she had even the slightest suspicion that death was waiting for her there, she would never have come there. Rekha says that for her, Deepak was the only support in her world and now after his departure, she will not marry again, but will raise and educate her daughter alone.

Conspiracy behind Gonda crocodile attack or just an accident?

In fact, the whole matter took a new turn when the deceased’s brother Badal flatly refused to accept it as just an attack by a wild animal. Badal’s direct allegation is that this could be part of a well-planned conspiracy and the police should investigate it deeply. His argument is that the area where the cremation was taking place was notorious for crocodiles and this was well known to all the local people. In such a situation, why was Deepak allowed to go there alone?

On the other hand, wife Rekha has hit back against her in-laws and made very serious allegations. Rekha says that she has not yet recovered from the shock of her husband’s death and her in-laws are continuously harassing her. According to her, her in-laws are hatching a false conspiracy against her for the sake of insurance money and she is being continuously mistreated.

Horrible truth revealed in postmortem report

Meanwhile, the postmortem report that has come out testifies to that horrifying scene. The report clearly confirms that the young man died due to deep and fatal wounds. Deep marks of five to six crocodile teeth were found on Deepak’s neck and back. Apart from this, evidence of crocodile bite has also been found on his right hand, from which it can be estimated how much effort the young man must have made to save his life underwater.

The local administration and police are currently investigating the matter from every aspect. Officials say that the incident site has been inspected and further legal action will be decided on the basis of the detailed postmortem report. At present, this tragic accident on the banks of Saryu has put the entire area in panic.
