There is a tremendous upheaval in the politics of West Bengal at this time. Giving a big blow to BJP, Mukul Roy is back in TMC. Mukul Roy was upset that BJP ignored him even after winning so many seats in the state in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Suvendu Adhikari was given importance by bypassing Mukul Roy and Mukul Roy did not like it and he again joined Trinamool. On the other hand, Roy’s troubles may increase as soon as he joins TMC. Mukul Roy is also an accused in the Narada scam in which three Trinamool Congress leaders and former mayor were arrested. There were allegations on the central government that Mukul Roy is in BJP, so no action was taken against him. In such a situation, there is now speculation that Narada scam can put him behind the bars.
Let us inform that Mukul Roy has been close to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee since the time when both these leaders used to be in Youth Congress. Roy has been one of the founding members of TMC. Trinamool was formed in 1998 by people who broke away from the Congress under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata. Mukul Roy has been the face of TMC as an MP in Delhi for a long time. In 2006, he was made TMC general secretary.
Roy had contested the assembly elections in 2001 on a TMC ticket. In 2006, he went to the Rajya Sabha by the TMC and he remained the leader of the party there. He was also made a minister of state in UPA-II. He has also been the Railway Minister. However, Roy had resigned from the ministerial post in 2012 after TMC’s exit from the UPA.
On the other hand, the tension between Mukul Roy and Chief Minister Banerjee started in the year 2015 when the Saradha scam came to light. After this Mukul Roy left the party. Since then Mukul Roy came in contact with the BJP. In the 2021 assembly elections, Mukul Roy contested on a BJP ticket and won.
