'VIP' demands during probation and now trainee IAS doctor Pooja Khedkar is in the news. Once again the issue of her controversial appointment has started to arise. The special thing is that Pooja is accused of getting the post by submitting a fake medical certificate. Through that certificate it was claimed that she is visually impaired. Now another revelation has come that the Khedkar family has property worth crores of rupees.

Both parents are millionaires

According to a media report from Pune, Khedkar has immovable property worth Rs 17 crore. This information has been given citing the statement of assets submitted to UPSC. According to the report, Puja's retired officer father Dilip Khedkar has assets worth Rs 40 crore and mother Manorama has assets worth Rs 15 crore. According to the report, as per the information given to UPSC, before joining as an IAS officer, Puja had immovable property worth Rs 17 crore. Her annual income was Rs 43 lakh.

According to the report, Pooja told UPSC that she owns 5.81 and 5.90 guntha plots in Mhalunge, a 724 sq ft plot in Kondhwa, 4.74 hectares of land in Dhadwali, 2.89 hectares in Nandur, 0.81 hectares in Pachunde and 984 sq ft in Saredi.

Pooja Khedkar is also accused of using non-creamy layer i.e. NCL certificate. The special thing is that her father Dilip is a former gazetted officer. He has also contested the Lok Sabha elections from Ahmednagar in the year 2024. During that time he had declared assets worth Rs 40 crore. Pooja had given the UPSC exam in the OBC category.

Pooja had appeared for the UPSC exam under the PWD category. She had also submitted a certificate of being mentally ill. Now when she was called for medical examination, she did not turn up. It is being said that she missed the examination 6 times. Despite scoring low marks in the exam, due to these concessions she managed to pass the exam and secured All India Rank (AIR) 841. After selection, UPSC asked her to undergo medical test to confirm her disability.

Khedkar refused to appear for these tests on six different occasions. Her first medical examination was scheduled for April 22, 2022 at AIIMS, Delhi. But she refused to go for the test claiming to be Covid positive. After this, she was scheduled to undergo medical examinations at AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on May 26 and 27 but she did not go there either. She kept avoiding these tests. There was another appointment on July 1 but this time too she missed it.

MRI done from outside, UPSC rejected it

However, she had initially agreed to a medical examination on August 26, 2022. This time she went for the tests. After conducting some tests, the doctors called her for an urgent MRI on September 2. The purpose of this MRI was to assess her vision loss. But she did not go.

Instead of appearing for these tests, Khedkar got an MRI done from an outside centre and submitted the report. But the UPSC rejected the report. The UPSC then challenged his selection in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which ruled against him on February 23, 2023. Despite this, his MRI certificate was later accepted and he was appointed as an IAS. Apart from the disability claims, discrepancies were also found in Khedkar's claims of OBC non-creamy layer status.
