Shakib wants to retire after playing in Bangladesh
Shakib said that he has still not officially retired from all formats. His plan is to return to Bangladesh and play a full series, which will include T20, ODI and Test, and then retire. He said that after this he will not play further. His aim is just to thank the fans and say goodbye in a good way.
Why can’t you play for Bangladesh?
However, a few months ago, Bangladesh’s sports advisor Asif Mahmood had made it clear that Shakib would not be allowed to play for the country because he had wished former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her birthday. Shakib’s last Test was against India in Kanpur and since then he has not participated in international cricket. He has played in the T20 World Cup 2024 and in ODI he last participated in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Currently Shakib is playing for MI Emirates in ILT20 2025. He is also planning to make a comeback in IPL 2026 and has registered himself for the mini-auction.
