‘Will explain with love’, says S Jaishankar on new US ambassador’s stand on CAA

During the second day session of the India Today Conclave, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar responded to a question on the appointment of Eric Garcetti, the new US ambassador to India and one who opposes the CAA. Eric Garcetti had earlier said that the CAA law in India is discriminatory for Muslims, to which the Foreign Minister said that different countries of the world have different criteria for citizenship.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar further said that if you look at Europe, the people of Germany get citizenship easily there. He said that if there is a Pakistani Hindu who has been persecuted, where else will he go instead of India. Jaishankar further said that this is a fact that everyone knows. The Foreign Minister further said in a light way about Eric Garcetti that let him come, he will explain with love.

What did S Jaishankar say on China?
During the session, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also talked about the current relations between China and India. He said that at present, this is the most challenging time for relations between China and India. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar took a tough stand and said about China that you cannot show that everything is normal by violating agreements. The earlier agreements were violated by China. We have made it clear that we will not tolerate violation of agreements.

Where do you see India by the end of this decade?
In response to this question, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the country and the society are changing now. We are becoming global and dynamic. The society has changed now and is moving ahead with a different perspective. The Foreign Minister further said that by the end of this decade, India will emerge as the third most powerful country in the world.

US President Joe Biden has appointed Eric Garcetti as the new US ambassador to India. Eric Garcetti, former mayor of Los Angeles, has been considered a Biden loyalist. Eric Garcetti also raised questions on the CAA law of the Narendra Modi government. Eric Garcetti, while addressing the Senate, the upper house of the US Congress in the year 2021, said that if he is appointed as ambassador to India, he will raise the alleged human rights issues regarding CAA.
