Will Rishabh Pant be removed from the captaincy of Lucknow? LSG gave big hint after shameful performance in IPL 2026

Lucknow: The journey of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026 was very disappointing. The team is out of the playoff race and now questions are being raised on the future role of captain Rishabh Pant. The latest statement of the team’s Director of Cricket Tom Moody has put a big question mark on Pant’s captaincy.

Tom Moody’s big sign

After the defeat against Punjab Kings, LSG took formal farewell from this season. The team’s performance was very weak by scoring only 8 points. Immediately after the match, Tom Moody said, “We will reflect on the entire season with a calm mind. We could not perform up to our level. We will have to think seriously about what the leadership of the team should be in the future. We need a reset.”

This statement is being considered as an indication of LSG management reconsidering Pant’s captaincy. Sanjeev Goenka’s franchise now seems to be preparing for major changes before the next season.

Pant’s poor performance

This season, Rishabh Pant was neither able to perform well with the bat nor under captaincy. In 13 innings he scored only 312 runs at an average of 28.36. Only two half-centuries remained in his name. In many important matches, both his batting and decisions proved costly for the team.

Despite having experienced foreign players and good Indian stars in the team, LSG looked disintegrated throughout the season. Questions were repeatedly raised on the captaincy decisions and the team seemed to be breaking under pressure.

KL Rahul’s name in discussion

After the poor performance of LSG, the discussion has intensified on social media whether the franchise will now give another chance to an experienced Indian captain. Interestingly, KL Rahul has previously captained LSG and recently he has also been given the Test vice-captaincy of the Indian team.

Apart from this, Pant has recently been left out of the Indian team for the Afghanistan white-ball series, which proved to be another setback for him. Till now no official decision has come from LSG on Pant, but it is clear from Tom Moody’s statement that the franchise is thinking of resetting the entire team including the captaincy.
