New Delhi: Amid the ongoing tussle between the government and bureaucrats in the national capital, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Friday told a packed auditorium of bureaucrats at Vigyan Bhawan, “You don’t need to fear anyone. You people work hard and honestly, no one will be able to touch you.
A workshop on capacity building of civil servants for the bureaucrats working in the Delhi government was held at Vigyan Bhawan in the capital today.
Delhi Government Services Department today organized a workshop on Capacity Building of Civil Servants for Effective Public Services under ‘Mission Karmayogi – National Program for Civil Services Capacity Building’ at Vigyan Bhavan. Which is envisaged by the Central Government as a national program to enhance civil services.
‘Mission Karmayogi’ is governed by an apex body headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The program envisages ‘Maximum Governance, Minimum Government’ as envisaged by the Prime Minister, where the basic principle is a transparent, participative and citizen friendly governance with minimum bureaucratic interference.
Referring to the work done in Delhi under his supervision, the Lt Governor said, “We have done so much work in one year with your cooperation, which probably could not have been done even in 10 years.” He said that in the last one year Delhi 17 thousand people were given permanent jobs. He said that there has been a visible change in the highly polluted Yamuna and it is expected that the old glory of the river will be restored.
Mr Saxena said the Supreme Court monitored the cleaning of the river for 28 years and then the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for eight years, but the result turned out to be “cypher”. He said that after the NGT order of January 8, there has been a marked difference in the work of the same officials who were involved in the project earlier also. Under this order, a high-level committee under the chairmanship of the Lieutenant Governor was constituted for cleaning the Yamuna.
Sharing his experience, the Lt Governor said that these works have been performed only by these civil servants and I am sure that with positive thinking, the civil servants can provide their best services to the citizens of Delhi.
Shri Saxena urged that the officers should act as servants of the society and not as an authority in accordance with the rules in an independent, fair and just manner and always have a citizen centric approach.
The Lt Governor lauded Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, who was present in the workshop, describing him as a “Karmayogi” who is ready to work round the clock.
