India qualification chances hurt by draw in Kanpur vs Bangladesh, here’s WHY

The second day’s match between India and Bangladesh has been cancelled due to rain without a single ball being bowled. The third day’s play could not start after lunch. In such a situation, the match now seems to be heading towards a draw and Team India may have to bear the brunt of it.

India team celebrates a wicket during 2nd Test against Bangladesh.

New Delhi: The second and last test match of the series between India and Bangladesh is being played at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. But due to rain, the second day’s game was cancelled without starting while only 35 overs could be played on the first day. The game could not start till lunch on the third day of the match as well, so the match is now heading towards a draw.

India will suffer a loss if the match is drawn:

It is worth mentioning that if the second test match is drawn due to rain, then Team India will suffer a big loss in the WTC points table. By winning the first match against Bangladesh, India increased its win percentage and strengthened its first position. After the Chennai Test win, number one India has 86 points and a win ratio of 71.67, while second-placed Australia still has 90 points, but a win percentage of only 62.50.

But if the Kanpur Test is drawn, the Indian team will have to suffer a big loss in WTC points. If the second Test is drawn, India will suffer a loss in win percentage. However, it will get four points, which will take its total to 90 points, which will be equal to Australia. But, its win ratio will drop from 71.67 to 68.18.

On the contrary, if Team India wins this match, their total points will become 98 and the win ratio will become 74.24, which will bring India very close to reaching the WTC final. But from the above, you can guess how much damage the rain in Kanpur can cause to India.

The match is getting delayed continuously:

It was not possible to practice on the covered ground due to rain. However, the match is expected to start on the third day. On the first day affected by rain, Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat. Which only 35 overs could be played and Bangladesh scored 107 runs for the loss of three wickets, Mominul Haque was at the crease with 40 runs and Mushfiqur Rahim with 6 runs.

For India, Akash Deep took two wickets in the first session, while Ravichandran Ashwin continued his excellent form by dismissing Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto.
