Congress Leader Arrested in Extortion Case: Youth Congress leader Nizam, arrested in the alleged extortion case of Rs 2.77 crore that came to light from Mangaluru, Karnataka, has been expelled from the party with immediate effect. The Mangaluru District Youth Congress Committee has removed Nizam from both the post of district general secretary and primary membership of the party.

In the order issued by District Youth Congress President Ibrahim Nawaz, it has been said that the allegations against Nizam have damaged the discipline system and image of the organization. The party made it clear that any activity against its ideology, values ​​and organizational interests will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against those committing indiscipline.

Youth leader arrested in extortion case

Let us tell you that Mangaluru Police on Tuesday arrested Youth Congress official Nizam and his associate Jitesh on charges of extorting crores of rupees from a businessman in almost two years by blackmailing him. According to the police, Nizam and Jitesh blackmailed a reputed businessman by using his personal objectionable photographs and videos. Investigation revealed that Jitesh was identified with the businessman in the year 2024.

Accused of extorting Rs 2.77 crore from businessman

After this, he initially demanded Rs 35 lakh by threatening to make private material public. Fearing defamation, the businessman paid this amount through cheque. After this, up to Rs 2.77 crore was recovered in two years.

Investigation also revealed that when the extortion demands started increasing, the victim approached Nizam for help. However, police allege that instead of helping Nizam, he supported Jitesh and became part of the alleged extortion gang.

The accused conspired to commit fake suicide

According to the police, the accused also created a fake suicide story to put pressure on the businessman. In May 2024, Nizam told the businessman that Jitesh had committed suicide and a suicide note was found from him, in which the businessman’s name was written.

To give credibility to the story, the accused also allegedly shared photographs related to Jitesh’s death and funeral and threatened to implicate the businessman in legal action.

Businessman gave money due to fear of legal action

Due to fear of legal action and social stigma, the businessman continued giving money. According to the police, a total of Rs 2.77 crore was collected from him between 2024 and 2026. The matter came to light in June 2026, when the businessman saw Jitesh alive in Mangaluru. After this he lodged a complaint at Urwa police station. Based on the complaint, the police arrested both the accused and started a detailed investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, after his arrest, pictures of Nizam with several political leaders from Karnataka and Mangaluru are going viral on social media, which has intensified the discussion in political circles.
