After a youth in Meerut posted a video related to suicide on Instagram, Meta sent an alert to the UP Police. The police took immediate action and took the young man to the hospital, where his life was saved.
Meerut: Based on a video shared on social media, Meta Company’s alert played an important role in saving the life of a young man. Due to tension in love relationship, a mentally disturbed young man had attempted suicide, but after getting timely information, the police took him to the hospital and saved him safely.
Indication of suicide found in Instagram post
A 25-year-old youth living in Sardhana area of Meerut shared a video on his Instagram account on Sunday evening. In the video he was seen drinking a suspicious liquid. The message accompanying the post indicated that he was going through deep emotional stress.
The social media platform’s monitoring system flagged the post as a potential suicide risk. After this, Meta passed the information to the police system as per the prescribed protocol, so that immediate action could be taken on the matter.
Police came into action as soon as alert was received
The information received from Meta reached the police headquarters, from where the concerned officials were immediately alerted. After receiving the information, Meerut Police without any delay traced the location of the youth and sent the local police team to the spot.
The post in-charge and the policemen reached the young man’s house within a few minutes. Seeing the condition of the young man deteriorating there, he was immediately taken to the hospital. Police also found the bottle from which he had consumed the liquid from the spot.
Condition normal after treatment and counseling
Doctors started treating the young man in the hospital. Due to timely medical help, his life was saved and after some time his condition was declared out of danger.
After the treatment, psychological counseling was also done for the young man, so that he could come out of emotional stress. Later he was handed over to the family. Police investigation revealed that he was mentally disturbed due to problems in personal relationships.
Impact of partnership between Meta and UP Police
An agreement was signed between Uttar Pradesh Police and Meta in the year 2022. Under this, when possible indications related to suicide are found on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, related information is sent to the police, so that timely intervention can be done.
