Cost of obstructing emergency service: Driver's license cancelled, heavy fine

The ambulance was going from Ponnani to Thrissur Medical College, carrying a critical patient. Despite the sound of sirens and continuous honking, the car driver did not give way to the ambulance. The entire video of the incident was recorded in the dashcam installed in the ambulance and after it went viral on social media, the police swung into action.

Strict action and fine

Police identified the car owner on the basis of the video and took action against him under the Motor Vehicles Act. The car driver was charged with the following:

  • Do not give way to the ambulance.
  • No Pollution Control Certificate (PUCC).
  • Violating traffic rules.

Punishment and fine:

  2. His driving license was canceled with immediate effect.
