Latest News :- The Supreme Court has said that the Junior NEET exam was not conducted fairly and has ordered the CBI to file an investigation report regarding the malpractices. The NEET-UG 2024 exam was conducted on May 5 at hundreds of centers across the country. The results were released on June 4, 10 days before the declared date. In this, 67 students secured first position.
Of these, more than 10 got full marks. It was found that many of them had appeared at a special examination centre. Apart from this, there were also complaints of leaking of exam papers, misappropriation of personnel and giving of grace marks. Therefore, many students had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding that the Junior NEET exam be canceled and the exam be conducted again.
Over 50 students from Gujarat, who had successfully appeared for the exam, had filed a petition demanding a ban on the Central government and the National Testing Agency for canceling the Junior NEET exam. Hearing on 38 petitions received in this way started in the Supreme Court today. The hearing was conducted by a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JP Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra.
At that time, it was requested on behalf of the petitioners demanding re-examination that “those who cheat in the NEET exam cannot be identified completely. They cannot be separated.” “In order to follow the proper guidelines to be followed during the examination, re-examination should be ordered.”
Responding to this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the National Testing Agency, said, “It is not yet certain whether the cheating was planned or personal. Conducting the examination again will penalize honest candidates. The students who secured top 100 positions in the exam were from 56 cities across 18 states and union territories. This is a local malpractice,” he said.
Speaking then, Chief Justice Chandrachud said, “It involves the lives of 23 lakh students. Whether through social media or electronic means of communication, the leakage would be widespread. It will spread like wildfire. This examination was not conducted fairly. “CBI should submit its investigation report in this regard by the next date of hearing.” Similarly, the National Testing Agency should identify at which centers malpractices have taken place.
The court is concerned about ensuring the integrity of the NEET exam. Such incidents should not happen again. For this, it is necessary for the government to consider constituting a multidisciplinary committee of eminent experts. If a committee has been formed then the government should give its complete information to the court. The court will then consider whether the group should be allowed to continue or the arrangements should be changed. Canceling Junior NEET would be the last resort,” he said.
Further, the Chief Justice directed all the petitioners seeking retrial to file a consolidated petition of not more than 10 pages. After this, the next hearing of the case was adjourned till July 11.
