Latest News :- Jharkhand assembly elections will be held in two phases on 13 and 20 November. There is a direct contest between the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) led All India Alliance and the opposition BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The success of some candidates contesting in both these alliances is attributed to the respect of 7 former Chief Ministers of Jharkhand.

Current Chief Minister of Jharkhand and JMM party leader Hemant Soran is contesting the elections. Sambai Soran, who was the Chief Minister for some time, has joined the BJP and is again contesting from the same constituency in Seraikela. In the last election, BJP's Ganesh Mahali had lost to former Chief Minister Sambhai by about 15,000 votes. He is joining JMM party in this election and opposing Sambhai.

Sambai's son Babulal Soran is also contesting from Katsila seat on behalf of BJP this time. If they win, both have a political future. In this election, Jharkhand's first Chief Minister and BJP state president Babulal Marandi is also contesting from Tanwar seat. Here Nizamuddin from JMM and Rajkumar Yadav from CPI are contesting the elections. Therefore the success of Babulal Marandi became challenging. Another former Chief Minister Arjun Munda did not contest this election. His wife Meera Munda is contesting from Bodka seat. His contest is with JMM MLA Sanjeev Sardar. Mira Munda relies on the influence of her husband Arjun Munda.

BJP Chief Minister Raghubar Das is the first person to complete his tenure in Jharkhand. After the defeat in 2019, he was made the Governor of Odisha. Relying on his influence, his daughter-in-law Purnima Das Sahu is contesting elections from BJP. He is contesting from Jamshedpur East seat, from where his father-in-law had won 5 times. Sibu Soran's son and Chief Minister Hemant Soran, daughter-in-law Kalpana Soran and younger son Basant Soran are contesting the elections. Sibu's elder daughter-in-law Sita Soran is leaving JMM and contesting elections from BJP this time.

Madhu Koda is an independent Chief Minister. He did not contest elections because he was jailed in a corruption case. His wife Geeta Koda is contesting from Jagannathpur Nagar seat from BJP. That area's MLA Sona Ram Singhu is contesting against him. Geeta Koda, who contested the Lok Sabha elections for BJP in Jagannathpur and lost, is gathering votes in the name of her husband Madhu Koda.
