For the first time, Indian official talks with Taliban Defense Minister

Latest News :- An Indian External Affairs Ministry official has for the first time talked to the Defense Minister of the ruling Taliban government in Afghanistan. In 1994, Mullah Omar and Abdul Ghani Baradar together started the Taliban movement in Afghanistan. This movement involved in terrorist activities captured power in 1996. In 2001, US-led NATO forces camped in Afghanistan to capture al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Thus the Taliban rule came to an end in 2001. After that the US supported government ruled. Following the withdrawal of US forces in 2021, the Taliban seized power in August of the same year.

The world does not recognize the Taliban rule. Due to this, many countries including India broke diplomatic relations with Afghanistan. After that there is no relation between the two countries. Meanwhile, it is being said that the country has continuously assured that it will not allow anyone from the soil of Afghanistan to engage in any activity against India. Subsequently, the Indian government is planning to renew its relations with Afghanistan.

According to this, Indian Foreign Affairs Joint Secretary JP Singh, who was on a tour of the country, met and talked to Mohammad Yakub Mujahid, Defense Minister of the Taliban government and son of Mullah Omar, in Kabul the day before yesterday. JP Singh also met Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki and former President Hamid Karzai. This is the first time in the last 4 years that bilateral talks have taken place. A statement issued by the Defense Ministry of Afghanistan said, during this meeting, renewal of relations between the two countries in humanitarian cooperation and other matters was discussed. “Both sides expressed willingness to continue dialogue,” it said.
