Swigy-Zomato Strike: On the occasion of New Year’s Eve on 31 December 2025, when the demand for food and grocery is at its peak, gig workers of platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon and Blinkit are going to go on strike across the country. This demonstration is mainly about deteriorating working conditions and lack of social security. Due to this strike, people ordering from these quick commerce sites across the country may face problems in the New Year.
What are the main reasons for the strike?

These workers are strongly opposing the ’10-minute delivery’ model being promoted by quick-commerce platforms. He says that this puts his life and that of other road users at risk.
Most gig workers have neither accident insurance nor health benefits or pension facilities. Without any apparent reason or hearing, workers’ IDs are blocked (Account Suspension), due to which they become unemployed overnight.

What are the main demands of gig workers?
Gig workers demand that a clear and fair pay structure be implemented that is commensurate with hours worked and distance covered. With this, the superfast delivery service of 10-20 minutes should be withdrawn immediately. There is also demand for facilities like insurance and EPF. Working hours should be regularized and mandatory rest breaks should be given between shifts. Have a robust system in place to resolve technical issues and payment related complaints within the app.
