0,2,7,3… Jos Buttler does not work again, will England drop in the semi-finals?
Jos Buttler, the greatest white-ball batsman in the history of England cricket, is going through a bad phase these days. 35-year-old Butler has not been able to even open his account after being out in single digit scores in four consecutive matches in the T20 World Cup 2026. In the last Super-8 match against New Zealand, he was out for a duck after playing 2 balls. Lockie Ferguson had him caught behind the wicket.
Butler’s bat got rusted
Right-handed batsman Butler had scored 81 runs in the 3-match T20 series against Sri Lanka before this T20 World Cup. England had made a clean sweep in this series and Butler was their second highest run scorer. Butler could not score any fifty but he played good innings in every match.
The English team must have had hopes that he would show his talent in the T20 World Cup, but the bat of this explosive batsman is silent here too. After playing innings of 26 and 21 runs against Nepal and West Indies respectively, he scored 3,3,7 and 2 runs in the next four matches. He also flopped against associate teams like Scotland and Italy.

Will Butler drop in the semi-finals?
The England team has reached the semi-finals but Butler could score only 9 runs in three matches of Super-8. The English team can drop him in the semi-finals. Ben Duckett can be fielded in place of Butler. Along with opening the innings, Duckett can also handle the responsibility of gloves.

England’s innings faltered
New Zealand won the toss and batted first and scored 159 runs at the loss of 7 wickets. In response, England lost the wickets of both their openers within 8 balls. Before Butler, Phil Salt was out after scoring 2 runs. After the fall of 2 wickets for 2 runs, Harry Brook (26 runs in 24 balls) and Jacob Bethel (21 runs in 16 balls) did not allow England to suffer any further setbacks in the powerplay. However, after this both continued in the overs, taking England’s score to 58/4. If the England team loses in this match then Pakistan will be out of the tournament.
