1 big good news in Bihar, 75% subsidy for farmers!
News Desk. Bihar government has decided to promote commercial cultivation of coconut with the aim of increasing the income of farmers in the state and making farming more profitable. The government has started this scheme considering the climate of the districts of North Bihar especially in the Ganga, Kiul and Harohar areas as favorable for coconut cultivation.
Objective and benefits of the scheme
A target has been set to plant 1,500 coconut saplings in Lakhisarai district this financial year. Under this scheme, farmers will get up to 75% subsidy on coconut plants. For example, on a plant worth Rs 85, the farmer will get a subsidy of Rs 63.75, leaving him to spend only Rs 21.25.
Application Terms and Procedure
To avail the benefits of this scheme, farmers can get minimum 5 and maximum 712 coconut saplings. For application, it is mandatory for the farmer to register in Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Along with this, LPC and receipt related to the land will have to be uploaded during the online application. Subsidy benefits will be available only after verification of all documents.

Farmers can take guidance from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Lakhisarai for technical information related to coconut cultivation like plantation, irrigation and care. Experts believe that with the right technology and government support, coconut cultivation can become a sustainable and profitable source of income for the farmers of Lakhisarai.

To avail the benefits of this scheme, farmers have been asked to get information from the Block Horticulture Office or District Horticulture Department. Apart from this, application can also be made through ‘Coconut Development Scheme’ portal on the website of Horticulture Department.
