1. Emergency

Emergency, directed by Kangana Ranaut, depicted India’s historical Emergency of 1975, but Sikh organizations and historians alleged that it misrepresented their community and historical facts. Even before its release, protests and demands for a ban were raised.

2.Chhaava

Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava got a good response at the box office, but many organizations in Maharashtra lodged protests against some scenes in its trailer and the depiction of historical characters. After the protest, the makers also made some changes.

3. Udaipur Files

Based on the Kanhaiyalal murder case of Rajasthan, the Delhi High Court had banned the release of this film after it was accused of spreading communal hatred. The Censor Board had to make more than 50 cuts only then the film could be released.

4. Jaat

The Christian community had raised objection regarding the church scene in this action film, then the makers removed that scene. However, due to the controversy, the matter reached the police station.

5. Phule

Phule, the biopic of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule, was in controversy due to allegations by some Brahmin organizations of portraying the community in a negative light, due to which the release date had to be postponed and the interference of the Censor Board was also seen.

This film, based on the violence in West Bengal, was called political propaganda by linking it to the events of 1946 and efforts were also made to ban its release at some places.

7. Abir Gulaal

This romantic comedy starring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor was not allowed to be released in India amid domestic-foreign tensions. Due to anger against Pakistani artists after the 2025 Pahalgam attack, the film remained banned in India and was released only overseas.

8. The Taj Story

Paresh Rawal’s The Taj Story created controversy when petitions were filed over controversial claims about the Taj Mahal and religious references in the film, which were said to have an impact on the social environment.

9. The Bads of Bollywood

Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan’s web series The Bads of Bollywood reached the court, where an IRS officer alleged that it falsely portrayed him and the enforcement agencies, leading to a defamation case.
